Apocalyptic/Dystopian

Books portraying the apocalypse or the dystopian world that results are increasingly popular.  I don’t quite know what that says about our society or where it is headed, but it makes for some great reading.

Divergent and Insurgent by Veronica Roth.  These books are absolutely amazing.  The world Roth has created with different factions is intriguing and Tris is a very strong character.  For those who enjoy listening to books, this is a fantastic one. I have read the books and am now the audio.

Ann Aguirre’s Enclave shows a disturbing future where people are living in abandoned subway tunnels in fear of the world topside.  Enclave was the September pick for the Paranormal Book Group.

The follow-up book Outpost follows the heroes as they head topside where they find a world different from the tunnels but  dangerous because of the “freaks” who inhabit it.  As an aside, I couldn’t listen to this on audio.  I tried, I really did.  Unfortunately, the reader has a very high-pitched and sing-song voice that does not seem to fit a girl who grew up in dark tunnels fighting freaks.
